Proses Alternasi Morfem dan Penentuan Morfem Dasar: Beberapa Persoalan Teori

Abstract

This paper discusses some theoretical problems in the phonological analysis of the Perak Malay with regard to morphemic alternations and the procedure for determining the base form of the morpheme. Although transformational generative phonology proposes some basic criteria as fundamental procedures for determining the base form ofa morpheme that undergoes morphemic alternation, theoretical problems still arise, especially when these criteria are in conflict. Since all the criteria given are important and have their own motivation in phonological analysis, it is difficult to determine which one is the most important. The question of how to weigh the various criteria remains one of the most important problems confronting the theory of generative phonology.

Kertas ini memaparkan beberapa persoalan teori berhubung dengan proses alternasi morfem dan kaedah menentukan morfem dasar dalam kajian fonologi Dialek Melayu Perak. Sungguhpun dalam kerangka teori fonologi generatif terdapat beberapa kriteria umum yang dijadikan landasan untuk menentukan morfem dasar bagi sesuatu morfem yang mengalami proses alternasi, namun masalah teori tetap timbul, terutamanya apabila berlaku pertentangan atau konflik antara kriteria-kriteria tersebut. Oleh kerana kesemua kriteria itu sama pentingnya dan mempunyai motivasi yang tersendiri dalam analisis fonologi, tentu saja kita menghadapi kesulitan untuk membuat penentuan kriteria mana yang lebih penting dan harus diutamakan. Persoalan ini merupakan satu masalah yang masih dihadapi oleh teori fonologi generatif sehingga kini.
