Abstract

Needs analysis is one of the most important phases of data collection and information for systematic analysis to provide input on the developmental needs of a sustainable curriculum. The main objective of this study is to identify the need to develop a cross-cultural corporate identity curriculum model for the Graphic Arts Programme in higher learning institutions. The needs analysis phase of this curriculum model involved a semi-structured interview involving twelve study participants consisting of ten lecturers teaching the Graphic Arts Programme from the local higher institutions and two experienced graphic designers from the public sector. Data from the interviews was then transcribed and thematically analyzed.Three main themes were identified (1) design based on local cultural identity, (2) cross-cultural curriculum and (3) student-centered teaching and learning. The findings showed that the majority of the study participants recommended that a cross-cultural corporate identity curriculum model for the Graphic Arts Programme. The participants proposed that the cross-cultural need in the field of graphic arts education is to provide a space for exploration in teaching and learning in creating local-style designs which are unique and creative. Study findings presented essential indicators for future studies which involve the development and design phase of a sustainable crosscultural corporate identity curriculum model for the Graphic Arts Programme.
