Abstract
Kesan globalisasi, liberalisasi dan perkembangan teknologi maklumat memerlukan penyesuaian danpenambahbaikan terhadap sistem pendidikan di peringkat pengajian tinggi demi menghasilkan modal insan yangmempunyai keupayaan pengetahuan, kemahiran dan ciri-ciri peribadi seorang pelajar yang unggul lagi holistik darisegi keilmuan itu sendiri, sahsiah peribadi atau kerohanian diri . Kajian ini bertujuan menilai keberkesanankurikulum sains sosial di Fakulti Sains Kemanusiaan (FSK), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) dalammelahirkan pendidik yang seiring dengan matlamat Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia dan institusi pendidikan laindi Malaysia. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif, iaitu kaedah temu bual mendalam ke atas lima orang gurusiswazah FSK UPSI dan lima orang majikan (pengetua). Data temu bual di analisis secara induktif dan deduktifdengan menggunakan perisian ATLAS.ti. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa keberkesanan kurikulum di FSK, UPSIdari perspektif siswazah berada pada tahap yang memuaskan bagi tema keberkesanan kurikulum dan keberkesanankokurikulum. Namun respons bagi tema keberkesanan kemahiran dan kemahiran kerjaya adalah kurang memuaskandan perlu diberikan perhatian. Secara keseluruhan pihak pengetua turut mengakui keberkesanan guru sains sosialUPSI dengan penambahbaikan terhadap aspek kemahiran berfikir, etika dan nilai. Kedua-dua ini pada pandanganpengetua amat penting difahami dan dilaksanakan oleh guru dengan sebaiknya. Justeru, semakan semula kurikulumdi peringkat universiti wajar mengambil kira perkara tersebut dan seterusnya menyediakan pelan tindakan bagimemantapkan kurikulum pendidikan sains sosial di UPSI.Katakunci: keberkesanan, kokurikulum, kualitatif, kurikulum, sains sosial, temu bualGlobalisation, liberalisation and information technology have necessitated the development and empowerment ofhigher education so as to cultivate human resources who are holistically educated, well informed, adequately skilledand well-rounded. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of social science curriculum of theFaculty of Human Sciences (FSK), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in producing educators in line withMinistry of Education’s goals and other educational institutions in Malaysia. This study uses qualitative methodwhich is in-depth interviews with five FSK UPSI graduate teachers and five employers (principal). The data areanalyzed inductively and deductively using ATLAS.ti software. The finding shows that the curriculum in FSK,UPSI from graduates’ perspective is at satisfactory levels for curriculum effectiveness and co-curriculum effectiveness themes. However, skill effectiveness and career skill themes are less satisfactory and therefore need to be given attention. Overall the principals admitted the effectiveness of UPSI social science teachers, with improvements in thinking skill aspect, etiquette and value. From the principals’ point of view both of them are imperative to be understood and implemented by educators as best as they could. Hence, the revision of curriculum of the university needs to consider the above findings, and to prepare an action plan in her effort to enhance its social science curriculum.Keywords: co-curriculum, curriculum, effectiveness, interview, qualitative, social sciences
