Kepentingan Akta Kawalan Sewa kepada penduduk di Lebuh Acheh-Lebuh Armenian (The importance of a Rent Control Act to the local population of Lebuh Acheh-Lebuh Armenian)

Abstract

Sektor demografi dan sosio ekonomi antara lainnya merangkumi demografi, perumahan dan kemudahan
masyarakat. Kajian sosial penduduk ini adalah bertujuan untuk menentukan bentuk dan unjuran kemudahan,  terutama perumahan yang akan disediakan di kawasan kajian. Selain itu ia juga bertujuan untuk menentukan
kelemahan dan kelebihan kawasan kajian daripada perspektif penduduk, khasnya yang melibatkan perumahan, kemudahan masyarakat dan infrastruktur sedia ada. Kajian ini bukan hanya memperlihatkan isu
dan masalah pemansuhan Akta Kawalan Sewa, malahan melihat pentingnya Akta Kawalan Sewa tersebut dalam memastikan komuniti setempat di kawasan Lebuh Acheh-Lebuh Armenian masih berpotensi tinggal atau bekerja di kawasan tersebut.

The importance of a Rent Control Act on a local public is twofold: first it influences the continued affordability of their accommodation, and second it determines the possibility of their continued working in the locality. This study of local residents of the Aceh Street-Armenian Street , Melaka looks into the residents‘ perception of the advantages and disadvantages pertaining to the repeal of the prevailing Rent Control Act, in particular, with regard to the continued affordability of their housing and the prospect of their continued working in the locality. The findings revealed that the local residents were apprehensive of the implications of the repeal of the Act and would urge that the safeguarding of their interests be the focus of the authorities concerned.
