Abstract

ABSTRACT

Climate change is a global challenge that affects human well-being. Climate change requires an integrated collaboration including the role of religious institutions. The green mosque agenda characterised by environmentally sustainable features is an important initiative in promoting sustainable lifestyles among congregants. Therefore, this study analyses the psychosocial level and climate change mitigation behaviour among congregants and examines differences based on gender, age and educational level. This study employed a questionnaire involving 421 respondents from four green mosques in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential methods, including t-tests and one-way ANOVA using SPSS version 25. The findings show that the psychosocial level of the congregants is high. In contrast, their climate change mitigation behaviour is at a moderately low level. The results also indicate no significant differences in psychosocial aspects and climate change mitigation behaviour based on gender, age, and educational level. Therefore, the role of green mosques should be strengthened through increased programmes with congregants to enhance sustainable lifestyles within the local community and subsequently reduce the impacts of climate change.
