Profil tumbuh-tumbuhan dalam pantun Melayu (Plants profile in the Malay pantun)

Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti kategori leksikon tumbuh-tumbuhan dan deskripsi profilnya dalam pantun Melayu. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui tahap pengetahuan leksikal masyarakat tentang leksikon tumbuh-tumbuhan dalam pantun Melayu. Untuk tujuan tersebut, analisis dilakukan ke atas 50 data pantun yang mengandungi unsur tumbuhan-tumbuhan yang diambil daripada teks Kundi Merah Saga: Kumpulan Pantun Lisan Melayu; manakala soal selidik pula dijalankan ke atas 30 responden dalam lingkungan umur 20-an hingga 30-an yang menetap di Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. Hasil kajian ini mendapati bahawa pantun Melayu mendeskripsikan profil tumbuh-tumbuhan dari segi habitat, ciri botani, khasiat dan kegunaannya sebagai sumber makanan, perubatan dan ekonomi masyarakat. Dapatan juga menunjukkan bahawa terdapat beberapa jenis leksikon tumbuh-tumbuhan dalam pantun Melayu, yang tidak diketahui oleh responden. Kesimpulannya, deskripsi profil tumbuh-tumbuhan dalam pantun menggambarkan hubungan antara leksikon tumbuhan-tumbuhan dan lingkungannya, khususnya dalam konteks tumbuh-tumbuhan sebagai sumber alam semulajadi yang memenuhi keperluan biologi, ekonomi dan juga keperluan sosial masyarakat.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the lexicon category of plants and their profile descriptions in the Malay pantun. It also intends to look at the frequency of lexical knowledge about the plants lexicon in Malay pantun. For this purpose, an analysis was done on 50 data of pantuns containing plants elements  collected from the text Kurik Kundi Merah Saga: Kumpulan Pantun Melayu. Added to this, a survey was carried out on 30 respondents aged between 20s and the 30s who reside in Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. The findings showed that Malay pantun describe the plants profile in terms of their habitats, botanical characteristics, benefits and their use as society’s source of food, medication and economy. The findings also reveal that there are several types of plants lexicon in Malay pantun which are not within the knowledge of the respondents. Conclusively, the profile descriptions of the plants in the pantun depict the relationship between the plants lexicon and its surroundings, especially in the context serving as the natural resource which caters for the biological, economic, and social needs of the society.
