Abstract

The Tauhidic Emotional Intelligence Instrument was formulated based on al-Ghazali Heart Tranquility Model in his Kitab Kimiya al-Saadah. Al Ghazali emphasized on four major domains that mold one’s emotion, namely, Knowing Self, Knowing Allah, Knowing the Hereafter and Knowing the Universe. All four domains were formulated to measure the level of adolescent’s emotion from these aspects: anger, hatred, love, sadness, jealousy and shame. This research examined the level of Tauhidic Emotional Intelligence among Muslim adolescents in Malaysia. Primary data were gathered from questionnaire returns of 1520 teenagers randomly sampled from all over the country. The reliability level of the Tauhidic Emotional Intelligence instrument obtained a high (>0.8) Alpha Cronbach score. The findings showed generally high mean scores for Knowing Self (mean=4.22, sd=0.35), Knowing Allah (mean=4.40, sd=0.40), Knowing the Hereafter (mean=4.29, sd=0.42) and Knowing the Universe (mean=3.29, sd=o.44). Only 4.3% of the adolescents admitted of not feeling ashamed in committing sins and vices towards Allah SWT. Inferential data analysis demonstrated the difference in the level of Tauhidic emotional intelligence based on stream, location, gender, PMR and FAFA results. This research is useful to the religious authorities and education ministry in the effort to strengthen adolescents’ emotional intelligence as duly required in Islam.
