Potensi tanah runtuh bagi cerun-cerun berhampiran kolej kediaman pelajar di Universti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) (Landslide potentials of slopes surrounding student colleges at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM))
Abstract
Tanah runtuh merupakan salah satu proses geomorfologi yang dikaitkan dengan pergerakan jisim secara semula jadi. Dalam konteks UKM, Bangi, terdapat banyak bangunan kediaman pelajar dibina berhampiran dengan cerun. Sehubungan itu, satu kajian telah dilakukan bagi mengenal pasti potensi tanah runtuh di enam cerun terpilih berhampiran kolej kediaman pelajar di sekitar kampus UKM, Bangi. Penentuan potensi tanah runtuh ini didasarkan kepada Skala ROM. Hasil kajian menunjukkan tahap kebolehruntuhan tanah di cerun-cerun yang dikaji adalah pada tahap sederhana dan rendah sahaja. Ini dapat dikaitkan dengan komposisi tekstur tanih liat yang banyak di semua cerun yang dikaji. Tanih liat berupaya mengikat kumin kumin tanih dengan kuat menyebabkan proses peleraian kumin-kumin tanih dan potensi tanah runtuh dapat dikurangkan. Walau bagaimanapun, sebagai langkah keselamatan jangka panjang proses pemeliharaan dan pemuliharaan cerun-cerun bermasalah sedia ada perlu digerakkan melalui pemantauan ke atas petunjuk geomorfologi yang memungkinkan berlakunya kejadian tanah runtuh pada masa hadapan.

Landslide is a geomorphological process associated with natural mass movement. In UKM’s Bangi campus several student hostels were built near slopes. This provided the setting for this study which sought to examine the potential of six sites of such slopes to landslide. The slope landslide potential was determined according to the ROM Scale. The findings revealed that the level of landslide erodibility at those selected slopes is either moderate or low. This could be related to the high composition of clay in e soil texture of the slopes. Clay soil had the ability to bind soil particles strongly enough to prevent them from crumbling thus reducing their potentials for sliding. However, for the purpose of long term safety, conservation and rehabilitation measures at existing problematic slopes should be activated to enable the monitoring of the geomorphological indicators of possible landslide events.
