Author Guidelines

 

JURNAL GUIDELINES

 

1. Submission of articles implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), or it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent from the publisher. Islamiyyat: The International Journal of Islamic Studies also accept manuscripts in Malay (Bahasa Melayu) and Arabic language. However, kindly take note that the title and abstract must be prepared in both Malay/Arabic and English languages.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
1. Please adhere to the following format for the full manuscript (with authors' details). Take note that Islamiyyat: The Journal of Islamic Studies practices double-blind review, where potential assigned reviewers will review anonymous manuscript (without authors' details)

a) TITLE, AUTHORS(S), ADDRESS (ES)
Please provide full name of the authors, full address and email address of corresponding authors in a separate word file.

b) ABSTRACT

The abstract should be clear, descriptive and should provide a brief information to the problem. This should generally be followed by a statement regarding the methodology and a brief summary of results. The abstract should end with a comment on the significance of the result or a brief conclusion. Abstract are written preferably from 200 to 250 words. For articles written in Malay (Bahasa Melayu) or Arabic, the abstract needs to be written in both Malay/Arabic and English languages. The title “ABSTRACT” is in Times New Roman, font size 12 while the contents of the abstract are in font size 10.

Keywords: Maximum of five (5) relevant keywords. Times New Roman, font size 10.

i) AUTHORS' CONTRIBUTIONS

All authors should contribute significantly to the article. For research articles with several authors, a short paragraph specifying their individual contributions must be provided. The following statements should be used “Conceptualization, X.X. and Y.Y.; methodology, X.X.; software, X.X.; validation, X.X., Y.Y. and Z.Z.; formal analysis, X.X.; investigation, X.X.; resources, X.X.; data curation, X.X.; writing—original draft preparation, X.X.; writing—review and editing, X.X.; visualization, X.X.; supervision, X.X.; project administration, X.X.; funding acquisition, Y.Y. All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript.”, please turn to the CRediT taxonomy for the term explanation. Authorship must be limited to those who have contributed substantially to the work reported.

j) REFERENCES 

All publications cited in the text should be included in the reference list. References should be listed in an alphabetical order according to UKM styles format. Example of references can be referred to the template of manuscript.


k) TABLES

Number of tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Please use Arabic numerals and supply a heading. Tables and their captions should be centered on the page. Place footnotes to the table below the table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters. Be sparing in the use of the tables and ensure that the data presented in the table do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.

l) FIGURES

Figures are sequentially numbered commencing at Figure 1 and followed by their captions and are placed at the bottom of the figure. Please ensure that figures are clear and legible with typed lettering.

m) NOMENCLATURE, SYMBOLS AND ABBREVIATION

Only wide used accepted symbols and forms of abbreviations should be used, but always give full expression followed by the abbreviation the first time it appears in the text. Abbreviations and symbols used in the tables and figures should be explained in the legend. The used of symbols in the text should be avoided as much as possible as they disrupt the flow of the sentences as well as the appearance of the typeset page. In no case should a combination of symbols and words be used.

3. PROOFS AND REPRINTS
The accepted article will be regarded as final, and the files will be processed as such. Proofs are for checking typesetting /editing: only printer errors maybe corrected. No changes in, or addition to the edited manuscript will be accepted.


REFERENCES

All cited references must appear and ordered alphabetically in the list of references at the end of the manuscripts.

Quotations

Quoted words, phrases and sentences should be enclosed in double quotation marks. Quotations within quotations and glosses should be enclosed in single quotation marks. Quotations may be either run in or in the case of quotations which are four lines or longer (or more than 40 words) – set off from the text as block quotations.

Italic

Italicize non-English terms or phrases in manuscripts written in English and italicize non-Malay terms or phrases in manuscripts written in Malay.

PAPER SELECTION AND PUBLICATION PROCESS 

  1. Submission Acknowledgement – Manuscripts are to be submitted through the online submission function. You will receive an email of acknowledgment from the editorial team within 48 hours.
  2. Basic Review - The editor or production editor determines whether a manuscript fits the journal’s aim and scope. Then, the manuscript is checked for its similarity index by Turnitin.
  3. Notification of Acceptance for Evaluation - Acceptance for evaluation will receive an email from islamiyyat@ukm.edu.my. Submissions does not meet the criteria for the evaluation will also receive an email advice (islamiyyat@ukm.edu.my).
  4. Peer Review - We use a double-blind system for peer-review. Both reviewers and authors’ identities remain anonymous. A manuscript will be peer-reviewed by respective fields or academic experts.  
  5. Editorial Decision - The decision to accept, to revise or reject a manuscript is based on suggestions from members of the editorial board and the suggestions of reviewers. Then, the decision will send to the corresponding author from islamiyyat@ukm.edu.my.
  6. Notification of Acceptance for Publication - Acceptance for publication will receive an email from islamiyyat@ukm.edu.my. Decline for publication also will receive an email from islamiyyat@ukm.edu.my.
  7. Online Publication - Manuscripts will be shortly published online upon final approval by the editorial board.

 

GUIDELINES FOR BOOK REVIEWS

1. Please include, at the beginning of the review:

Author, Title, Place, Publisher, Date, number of pages, ISBN E.g., Turabian, Kate L. A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. Sixth edition. Chicago and London: University of Chicago Press, 1996. 308 + ix pp. ISBN: 0-226-81627-3.

2. The review should begin with a brief overall description of the book.

3. Matters that may be considered in the body of the review include:

4. The average review should be about 1000 - 2000 words long. The name, affiliation and email address of the reviewer should appear at the end of the review.

  • The strengths and weaknesses of the book.
  • Comments on the author’s style and presentation.
  • Whether or not the author’s aims have been met.
  • Errors (typographical or other) and usefulness of indices.
  • Who would the book be useful to?
  • Would you recommend it for purchase?

5. The preferred format for submissions is MS-Word.

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. Original research papers (technical article) : should be minimum 5000 words and up to a maximum of 7000 words.
  3. Review papers/articles : should be minimum 5000 words and up to a maximum of 7000 words
  4. Research Notes: Articles seeking to advance a new idea, theoretical perspective, research program, or methodological approach. The length of text should be around 1,000-1,200 words.

  5. Book Reviews: Book reviews should be about 1000- 2000 words (including references but excluding tables and figure).
  6. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  7. The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
