Liputan Kandungan dan Penerbitan Berita Sukan dalam Akhbar Harian di Malaysia (Coverage and Publication of Sports News in Malaysian Daily Newspaper)

Berita sukan pada hari ini sudah menjadi ciri utama dalam akhbar harian. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penetapan liputan kandungan dan penerbitan berita sukan, dan bagaimana editor sukan membuat penetapan tersebut dalam konteks akhbar harian di Malaysia. Kajian ini adalah kajian kes di mana data telah dikutip dengan menggunakan analisis kandungan ke atas halaman sukan akhbar Kosmo dan Berita Harian dan temubual bersama dua orang editor sukan di akhbar tersebut. Data telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan gabungan tatacara analisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa akhbar harian tempatan mempunyai litupan berita sukan dalam negara yang lebih tinggi berbanding luar. Selain itu dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa liputan berita sukan Kosmo lebih banyak disokong dengan gambar berbanding akhbar Berita Harian. Namun liputan kandungan dan penerbitan berita sukan wanita dalam kedua-dua akhbar adalah sangat rendah berbanding sukan lelaki. Kajian ini juga mendapati bahawa bahawa editor sukan akhbar Kosmo adalah lebih bebas dalam membuat penetapan liputan dan penerbitan berita sukan sedangkan editor sukan akhbar Berita Harian lebih terikat dengan kepentingan perniagaan. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa orang ramai terutamanya penggiat dan peminat sukan tempatan perlu lebih kritikal terhadap penetapan liputan kandungan dan penerbitan berita sukan dalam akhbar harian kerana penetapan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh kepentingan perniagaan dan amalan editor sukan di akhbar tersebut.Kata kunci: Berita sukan, litupan kandungan; akhbar harian, editor sukan, kajian kes, Malaysia Sports news has been regarded as an important feature in any daily newspapers. This study examined content coverage and publication of sports news in Malaysian daily newspaper, and the power of sport editors in setting the sport news. The study is a case study which employed document analysis of sport news in Kosmo and Berita Harian newspapers and interviews with two sports editors in the newspapers. Data was analyzed using a combination of quantitative and qualitative data analysis approaches. The study found that Kosmo and Berita Harian newspapers provide a greater coverage for local sports news in comparison to international sport news with Kosmo employed more pictures in their sport news in relation to Berita Harian. However, the study indicated that both newspapers have a very low content coverage of female sport news in relation to male sport news. The study further showed that sport editors in Kosmo are more independent in deciding contend coverage and publication of sport news while sport editors’ decisions in Berita Harian are bounded by business interests. This study indicated that sport practitioners and fans should be aware that coverage and publication of sports news in daily newspapers are influenced by business interests and personal practice of sports editors in the newspapers.Keywords: Sports news, content coverage, daily newspaper, sport editor, case study, MalaysiaDownloads
