Persepsi Guru terhadap Gaya Kepimpinan Guru Besar dan Hubungannya dengan Iklim Sekolah (Teacher’s Perception on Headmaster's Leadership Style and Its Relationship with School Climate)
Abstract
Gaya kepimpinan merupakan salah satu aspek penting yang perlu dimiliki oleh setiap guru besar, di mana ia dapat mempengaruhi suasana atau iklim bagi warga sekolah. Kajian tinjauan ini bertujuan untuk melihat persepsi guru terhadap gaya kepimpinan yang dominan diamalkan oleh guru besar dan hubungannya dengan iklim sekolah di sekolah-sekolah agama gunasama di Brunei. Soal selidik digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data, dan data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensi. Seramai 108 orang guru agama daripada sepuluh buah sekolah agama gunasama di Daerah Brunei dan Muara terlibat sebagai sampel. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa gaya kepimpinan yang paling dominan diamalkan oleh guru-guru besar ialah gaya kepimpinan demokratik, diikuti dengan gaya kepimpinan autokratik dan laissez-faire. Manakala ujian korelasi Pearson pula menunjukkan bahawa hanya gaya kepimpinan demokratik yang mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan iklim sekolah. Implikasinya, menurut persepsi guru-guru agama, guru-guru besar di sekolah agama gunasama hendaklah mengamalkan gaya kepimpinan demokratik dan mengurangkan penggunaan gaya kepimpinan autokratik dan laissez-faire dalam rangka mewujudkan iklim sekolah yang kondusif dan positif.

Leadership style is one of the most important aspects that every headmasters should have. At the same time, every style of leadership applied can also influence a school's climate, whether it be positive or negative. This survey aimed to examine teachers' perceptions of the dominant leadership style practiced by headmasters and its relationship to school climate in religious sharing schools in Brunei. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and the data were analysed descriptively and inferentially. A total of 108 religious teachers from ten religious sharing schools in Brunei and Muara District were involved as sample. The results show that the most dominant leadership style practiced by the headmasters is the democratic leadership style, followed by the autocratic and laissez-faire leadership style. Meanwhile, Pearson's correlation test shows that only democratic leadership styles has a significant relationship with the school climate. These findings implicates that, according to the religious teachers, principals in religious sharing schools should adopt democratic leadership styles and reduce the use of autocratic and laissez-faire leadership styles in order to create a conducive and positive school climate.
